The mission of Chances for Children (CFC) is to strengthen relationships between at-risk parents and their children, from birth to age five. We want to provide coping skills for parents and to prevent destructive interactions from interfering with the healthy development of both parent and child.

PROS/Adult Clinic Psychiatrist

Job Description for PROS/Adult Clinic Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner

Title: PROS Medical Director and Clinic Psychiatrist

RMHA, a community mental health center in Riverdale, serving primarily communities in the northwest Bronx for over 50 years, is seeking a psychiatrist for 35 hours per week. Hours are divided equally between serving as Medical Director of the PROS (Personalized Recovery-Oriented Services) program, an innovative service for people with psychiatric disabilities, and the Adult Psychiatry Clinic which are both located in our main site on Riverdale Ave. We will also accept applications to each position separately (18 hours/week in PROS, 17 hours/week in Clinic), if that suits the applicant.

As the PROS Medical Director, you will work with a team of social workers, career counselors, mental health therapists, a nurse, and peer specialists to serve approximately 80 PROS recipients, providing psychiatric assessments, medication management, and coordination of health care with other medical providers. You will assume a leadership role alongside the Program Director in treatment planning and clinical decision-making.

Reports to: Agency Medical Director

Major Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document initial psychiatric evaluation of all individuals admitted to PROS and a portion of clinic admissions
  • Perform and document psychiatric updates as needed and required
  • Review and assess Individualized Recovery Plans
  • Maintain up-to- date charting and other documentation as required
  • Provide crisis intervention, including emergency hospital admission support
  • Actively participate in team meetings and weekly Clinical meetings
  • Supervise Registered Nurse in PROS
  • Complete trainings in Evidence Based Practices for working with dually disordered individuals and tobacco treatment.
  • This is a 5 day per week position for the full 35 hours

Qualifications:

  • NYS license, DEA Certification
  • Experience with adults with mental illness is preferred
  • Experience and interest in community psychiatry a plus
  • Excellent computer literacy skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural a plus
  • We have a current application to participate in the National Health Service Corps.
