RMHA’s 5K Run/Walk 2012

Riverdale Mental Health Association
3rd Annual Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies
5K Run/Walk

Sunday, March 11, 2012
Stadium, Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY

ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap kicked off RMHA’s third annual Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies 5K Run/Walk to raise funds and awareness for mental health and well-being in our community.

Over 160 of us gathered on Sunday, March 11 in scenic Van Cortlandt Park in the Northwest Bronx. The course followed the trail system in the park, beginning and ending in the Stadium, which is located in the Southwest corner of the park just east of Broadway and West 242nd Street.  There were commemorative t-shirts, beverages and snacks available for all, and awards were given to the top finisher in each category, and to the individuals who raised the most through sponsors’ pledges (Congratulations, Debra S. and Gary C.!). The event was a rousing success and much enjoyed by all!

Acclaimed broadcaster and author Jeremy Schaap has won six national sports Emmy Awards for his work at ESPN, including the Dick Schaap Writing Award named for his late father. Schaap, an ESPN and ABC News TV correspondent, hosts ESPN Radio’s “The Sporting Life,” airing in New York weekly on WEPN 1050-AM, and wrote N.Y. Times bestseller Cinderella Man, on heavyweight champion James J. Braddock, and Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler’s Olympics.
